Response to TheBlaze's Story on The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises (TDKR) is one of the most, if not, the the most anticipated movie of the year. Christopher Nolan took the story of Batman and turned it into a modern day theatrical reality. We saw that in Batman Beings (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and now in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Jonathon Seidl, of TheBlaze.com, explained what he was seeing in the movie as if it’s some kind of promotion to today’s “Occupy Wall Street,” proposal of an ideological comparison.

We live in crazy and exciting times. The global economy is barely hanging on for dear life and the world is still trying to figure out what the appropriate solutions would be to get things back to the way they were. A variety of ideologies is rising quickly proposing a possible solution. Some proposed solutions already turned to violence or are in the preparations for civil war while others are peaceful proposals.

Seidl compared the upcoming movie, TDKR, to that of Occupy Wall Street.

…there are some eerie similarities between today’s May Day protests and what you will see in the trailer. In short, a small group of people wreaking havoc on New York City. In fact, “Catwoman,” played by Anne Hathaway, says in the trailer, “There’s a storm coming.” Sound familiar? And the main villain claims to be “Gotham’s reckoning.” Sound like any rhetoric you’ve heard?

But it’s worth noting that the movement was birthed out of a plan for economic terrorism. And the trailer even shows action being taken against, you guessed it, Wall Street (see above picture). In fact, back in November, we brought you behind-the-scenes photos of the movie shooting riot scenes in New York’s Financial District, where an angry mob faced off against police.

Yes Seidl, it all sounds familiar. It sounds like rhetoric from the character, Ra’s Al Ghul, in Batman Begins. In the movie, Ra’s is the leader of “The League of Shadows” with a prime directive to destroy Gotham City. Ra’s also admitted that they tried to destroy Gotham before through economics. When Ra’s was in Gotham, he made the grand attempt to have the people of Gotham destroy themselves through fear.

The first two Batman movies produced by Christopher Nolan, also showed that Gotham’s city government was corrupted by mobs and The League of Shadows. It wouldn’t surprise me if the third movie shows corruption in the governments still.

Seidl, have you even kept up with the story of Bane? In the upcoming movie, Bane is a member of The League of Shadows and it looks as if he is carrying out the plans of Ra’s. Bane is the strongest rival that Batman had ever faced, and intelligent. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a cause of separation with the citizens into factions after breaking the bat, “It’s all part of the plan.” The League of Shadows has always been trying to destroy Gotham to “restore balance.”

As we still have yet to know the story of The Dark Knight Rises, we can make comparisons of any corrupt organization with the movie, such as The Muslim Brotherhood or SEIU, I bet you have thought of those too.

Nolan has yet to prove that he is against corporations; if anything, his Batman films shows he’s for corporations and against corruption in all types of systems. He is also showing how evil can use the good resources to cause collapses and panic, such as Wall Street. This is common knowledge for our modern day life and I highly doubt that his story has anything to do with the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Could I be wrong? Sure, but this story was in the works long before the Occupy movement. First the writing which was completed in 2010, the planning, and then the filming which began in early 2011. Occupy began in the Summer of 2011.

For one last point, let’s take a look at IMDb for the synopsis of TDKR:

Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent’s crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with Bane’s plans to destroy the city. (Sounds like Occupy. Note the sarcasm.)

Seidl, don’t be ridiculous, your story was “not news” and over the top. As I had difficulty making sense of your story, you are probably having difficulty making sense of mine.

Please note that I am criticizing in the author and his article but not TheBlaze.com. I enjoy reading TheBlaze and find it more close to journalism then the big names of news. I trust it for truth but I do recognize that they too can release ridiculous stories.
