Jonna – Puppets

jonna

Jonna is re-entering the world of music in Finland with her new single, Puppets.  The song and her new upcoming album is in English and it is taking notice here in America.I interviewed Jonna on her new single and new direction.  She hopes she can influence women to overlook the pressures the entertainment industry sets on them to be thin and to dress provocatively.

Jonna has a new positive look on life and wants to spread her influence throughout the world.

Dave:  Tell me a little about puppets.

Jonna:  Puppets is a song I wanted to write for a long time.  I then got the idea this fall, when I was writing it, and it’s about me trying to encourage people to think for themselves and for them to make their own choices and not be puppets….

Dave:  This is a stance you are taking.

Jonna:  Yeah, yeah it is, because I was a little saddened when I watched a couple of music videos.  After a long break, I hadn’t really watched any music videos for awhile and I looked up some of them and I was kind of terrified…they are almost rated R… I also say that in my song, “someone should R rate these music videos.”  It is sad that young girls and boys watch those videos and they think that’s all that life is about.  I think life is much more than that.

Dave:  May I point out this controversial line in your music video, as well.  You said you now wear clothes over you underwear.  Is that true?

(Laugh)

Jonna:  Yes, because, when I started out, I was kind of like a puppet, following Madonna and she was always dressed very scandalously and so I thought that, well I can do that, and I did that and it wasn’t really that cool after all.  So I decided to wear clothes over my underwear.

Dave:  What kind of pressures do you say that a young girl faces in the music industry?

Jonna:  There’s a lot of pressure because everyone is very judgmental and they’re watching videos or performances and think that this girl has a little bit of fat right there or this or that.  There’s this pressure, you want to look good.  I don’t necessary do it because of that, I’d rather feel healthy then look good because someone says that there’s a certain kind of good that only exists cause I don’t believe that there is.  I think that beauty is much much more than the surface….

Dave:  Eurovision, what is Eurovision?
